IntelliSense™ Technology
The Wagner MMC220 utilizes a powerful electromagnetic wave, dubbed “IntelliSense” to quickly and accurately measure the moisture content of your wood without leaving unsightly holes in your lumber. Normally we don’t buy into such marketing lingo but this one seemed to really make a difference.

The electromagnetic waves on the MMC220 go deep below the surface to give you an accurate reading of the moisture inside the wood. Unlike other pin-less moisture meters on the market, the meter can actually distinguish between surface and internal moisture conditions, providing extremely accurate results. This is an often overlooked but great feature that really sets this moisture meter apart from the rest.

Ease of Use
The size and weight of the MMC220 make it easy to handle, the meter’s well-built design fits comfortably in your hand and coupled with its lightweight also makes it comfortable to carry around in your pocket. We found the “Press and Hold” feature, which retains the current moisture reading on screen, to be very convenient, especially when checking wood awkwardly stacked at the lumberyard.

Measurement Range We found the MMC220 capable of readings almost all of the wood species used commonly used by woodworkers. The adjustable specific gravity (SG) ranges from 0.20 to 1.0, the higher end of this range is ideal for exotic woods. As long as you know the specific gravity of the wood you’re using, the meter should be able to test it. The unit does come with a handy guide that lists the most commonly used wood species and their corresponding SG values. There is also a small writing area featured under the main controls, visible in the featured photo, where you can jot down your most commonly tested woods and their SG values.


No Backlit Display
While the LCD screen is easy to read, it seems strange to not include a backlit display in this day and age. One does not always find themselves in a well-lit area when working with, or selecting wood. The addition of a backlit display would definitely be much appreciated.


The Wagner MMC 220 comes with a generous 7-year warranty that covers any defects or if the device loses factory calibration. If the meter breaks within 90-days the warranty will repair your unit. There is an additional calibration block you can purchase to check your unit’s calibration.


The MMC220 is easy to operate, lightweight, and most importantly, accurate. It is one of the best moisture meters available on the market and works for both exotic and common woods. It is an investment worth making if you frequently work with wood and are tired of poking holes in your material with a pin meter.
