Pros & Cons

Let’s take a look at we like, and what we didn’t like, about this laser level.

Pros

Speedy Self-Leveling
We found the self-leveling feature to dial in fairly quickly, the system has an accuracy rating of +/- 1/8th inch which is standard across DeWalt’s product line. Note that the system does emit a loud beep when it falls out of alignment.

Mounting Options
The DW088K comes complete with an integrated magnetic pivoting base which allows mounting on various metallic surfaces. The pivoting plate allows for quick adjustments when mounted to a surface and there is no need to remove the laser from your mounting surface in order to re-adjust your line. The laser level does also feature a standard tripod mounting adapter (1/4″).

High Durability
Everyone loves working with a reliable tool and nothing beats the high dependability of the DW088K thanks to its IP54 enclosure. The enclosure benefits from complete moisture sealing and dust proofing which keeps it safe when it takes a beating on rugged job sites.

The sturdy carrying case helps protect the laser during travel from one job site to another. The case not only shields the laser level from damage but also helps ensure that the laser level does not lose its calibration from minor bumps or falls.

Lightweight
The DW088K weighs in at only 1 pound making it very easy to carry around. The heavy-duty carrying case, while adding a slight amount of extra weight and bulk, is a necessary compromise for tool longevity.

Cons

Here Comes The Sun
As we’ve mentioned in some of our other laser level reviews, the sun is the number one killer of laser lines around the world. If you plan on using this level in direct sunlight, you may want to wait for night to come, or add DeWalt’s DW0714 laser enhancement glasses.

No Manual Control
One small issue we came across was the lack of manual controls for the laser leveling system. You can only dial in the laser via the built-in leveling system, no manual adjustment options exist.

Warranty Details

The DEWALT DW088K comes with a 3-year limited warranty. For one year, DEWALT promises to repair manufacturing defects free of charge. The warranty does not cover damage from daily wear & tear.

Conclusion

The DEWALT DW088K provides great value for the everyday contractor and do-it-yourselfer. The highly accurate laser with an industry standard 50 foot range provides consistent measurement results time and time again. The durable, IP54 over-molded enclosure coupled with a three-year warranty gives you piece of mind that you’ll have a reliable laser for many years to come.
