Pros & Cons

Here is what you can except when purchasing this laser level

Pros

Quick Self-Leveling
The GLL 55 boasts one of the faster self-leveling systems that we’ve seen on the market, leveling itself in less than a minute. Leveling is performed via pendulum system, one great benefit of having a pendulum is being able to “lock” the device during transportation. This helps prevent any damage to the delicate laser system as well as ensuring the laser stays properly calibrated.

Mounting Options
The unit itself features a 1/4″ thread screw adapter for easy tripod mounting, the magnetic adapter is a great bonus as it opens up even more placement possibilities. Once attached, you can easily secure the unit to any metallic surface, such as screws, ductwork, or conduit. The handy included laser target plate further simplifies leveling jobs making it easier to dial in the level just right.

Line Configurations
Each laser line (vertical, horizontal, and cross) can be projected independently from, creating a variety variety of alignment and level applications. We theorize that being able to only use a horizontal line, say when hanging photos, should help greatly save on battery life.

Cons

Some Visibility Issues
The only real con with this unit, and we’ve seen it a few times before on other levels, is poor outdoor visibility. Sunlight is a huge enemy of laser levels and the story here is no different. If you need to use the level outdoors, we recommend avoiding sunny days and direct sunlight if at all possible.

Warranty

As with all their other products, Bosch provides a 2-year limited warranty. If any manufacturing defects occur within the first 2 years of ownership, Bosch will repair or replace the unit free of charge.

Conclusion

The Bosch GLL 55 is a great unit for both the working professional and do-it-yourselfer. It’s hard to go wrong with such a fully-featured unit, the self-leveling system and pendulum lock are great features to have while the independent line configurations add to the versatility of this laser level.
